  • COMMISSIONERS INTO THE TALL WEEDS, WATCH TOO MUCH Dr. WHO
Your all-republican commissioners are standing fast against a subversive, insidious, sinister plot for global domination you never heard about – a twenty year old UN resolution endorsed back in the day by Republican Pres. George H.W. Bush (senior-the smart one) that promotes parks, good transportation, and limiting urban sprawl. Who knew, right?

Donnie Loftis says “I know there will be folks who say, ‘You guys are drinking the Kool-Aid.’” Well, yes, commissioner, that...

  • MIDNIGHT VOTE, REPUBLICAN DOMINATION
The yo-yo, down again, up again, House republicans ran down to Raleigh again last month and literally just after the stroke of midnight pulled a parliamentary maneuver to prohibit teachers from using direct deposit to the state's teachers association. Every other North Carolinian can arrange for a payroll deduction that pays various bills, so why are republicans so afraid of kindergarten teachers making itty bitty payments to their teachers' association? Because republicans don't like the...

  • LAUNCHING THE WAR AGAINST KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS
Launching the war against kindergarten teachers. Speaker Tillis said earlier this year that Republicans were pushing this bill to attack the North Carolina Association of Educators because "[we] just want to give them a little taste about what’s to come." Tillis even had the gall to ask members to pray for Rep. Womble - who was in intensive care in Winston-Salem...

  • NC - #3 IN POULTRY PRODUCTION...
...# 49 in per pupil spending. The mean-spirited dues check-off vote shows the lengths that republicans will go to damage the state’s public education system, even by singling out and punishing our teachers who dedicate themselves to teaching our children. Why? Because the teachers spoke out against the half billion dollars in K-12 education cuts that will directly affect the education we give our children.
The republican education cuts took out 1,700 teachers and 2,400 teachers’...

  • WATCH FOR MORE STEALTH LEGISLATING IN OUR STATE
A number of other bills remain in the House republican’s so-called “veto garage.” Their so-called “leaders” have publicly announced their intention to do whatever they have to do in order to override the vetoes. None of these bills deal with our state’s economy, creating jobs, or enriching NC communities. They are about disenfranchising North Carolinians or generating profits for wealthy campaign donors at the expense of North Carolina’s people.

  • PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN
This January was the 73rd anniversary of the film version of the wizard of oz. Today if Dorothy encountered men with no heart, no brain and no courage, she wouldn't be in Oz, but in the state legislature.

  • SOCIAL IMMOBILITY
Two out of three poor kids grow up to be poor, while two out of three rich kids in America grow up to be rich. Social mobility occurs only among the middle - some go up, and others go down, but few are moving into the middle.

What pushes a person out of the middle? Hospital bills that wipe out meager savings, home debts that exceed the value of the house, jobs lost to machines or hungrier workers overseas. And no access to a 21st century education.

    Folks know the...

  • LACK OF FEDERAL DEBT DEAL COULD HIT NC SOON
Congress' failure to confront the national deficit would go straight to North Carolina schools, stores and doctors offices. Automatic spending cuts - triggered by the lack of agreement in Congress over ways to reduce the more than $1.2 trillion deficit - will begin in a year, if the do nothings in Congress don’t face up to the fact that taxes have to be raised...

  • HEALTH CARE REFORM STILL UNDERWAY
This fall look for easy to read and understand descriptions of benefits that make it easy to compare insurance plans. Soon you will get a description of insurance benefits in plain English terms and that give examples how a plan will cover common conditions like a pregnancy or diabetes. All thanks to the Health Care Reform Act that republicans still want to abolish.
